MID SHIRES MARKSMEN
LEAGUE 10 METRE PISTOL Revised December 2022
Competitors will be allowed to compete in either” Freestanding” or “Supported” events as follows:
Freestanding: Pistol is held by the shooter at arm’s length without any additional means of support. To rest between shots, competitors may place their pistols on a “club” tripod or their own personal support if they so wish.
Supported: The support may be a “club” or member’s own tripod of variable height. This may be topped with a bench rest bag or similar on which to rest the base of the pistol grip. The pistol will be held one- handed and straight armed during the competition.
Any non-BB sub 6ft/lb single /multi shot, single/multi stroke Pneumatic, PCP, Spring, Gas Ram or C02 powered pistol in .177 calibre only* may be used in this event.
Laser sights are not permitted.
A competitor may shoot all classes but only one target card in each class.
Classes: There are 2 different classes within both the “Freestanding” and “Supported” events as follows:
1. Optical sights: Any pistol scope of any magnification or Red/Green dot sight may be used.
2. Open Sights: Any Notch and Post open sight, with or without fibre optic inserts may be used.
Range Safety
All pistols must be carried to the firing line unloaded and un-cocked in a secure case or bag.
Pistols must only be removed from the case when shooting the course or when zeroing. Pistols must only be sighted, loaded or discharged over the designated firing line.
Multi shot pistol magazines must be removed before leaving the firing line.
Course of Fire
Each course will consist of a line of scoring targets. (The number of targets will depend upon the expected turn out on the day) Shooters will mark their cards with their name and the tick box of their chosen classification.
The targets shall be placed a minimum 2 metres apart, 10 metres from the firing line.
No part of the shooters body shall be over the line except for the pistol shooting and supporting arms.
The target will consist of an A3 sheet with 10 scoring targets and 1 zeroing target.
Multiple shots are allowed at the zeroing target with 2 shots only at each of the scoring targets.
Freestanding: The first 8 targets (16 shots) will be taken 2 handed and straight armed. (Competitors may shoot single handed throughout the course, if they so wish) The last 2 targets (4 shots) shall be taken single handed and straight armed.
Supported: All 10 targets, (20 shots) will be taken one-handed and straight armed from a variable height tripod, with only the base of the pistol grip resting on a bench rest bag or similar. No part of the shooters body may touch the tripod except for the shooting hand holding the pistol.
Timing and Scoring: A shooter will fire 2 shots only at each of the scoring targets with no limit applied to the number of shots on the zeroing targets.
All shots including those for zero checking, must be taken within a time limit of 20 minutes
A spotting scope is allowed within the time limit but must be used by the competitor only. A separate spotter is not permitted.
Each target is numbered inwards 3 to 10 with a 3-millimetre red centre ring.
A .177 plug gauge (Anschutz/Bisley) will be used for scoring the cards.
A NSRA taper gauge will be used to detect double shot holes on a target.
Each target sits within a square box which if hit scores 3
All targets are scored inwards i.e., A shot in the 5 but touching the 6 is scored as 6
A shot touching the 10 ring is scored as 10 and a shot obliterating the central ring will score 11.
With all central rings hit, the score will be 200. If they are all obliterated the score will be 220. Should an obliterated central ring be covered or overlapped (figure of 8) by another pellet strike, the score for that target will be 22 up to a maximum of 220 per card
More than 2 shots in each target will be scored the lowest 2 only. Supposing there is a 9 plus a 7 plus a 5, only the 7 and 5 will count towards the final score.
A miss will be scored as 3 within the box, if a pellet straddles 2 boxes the plug gauge will determine the box it is biased towards.
A miss outside and not touching the box will be scored 0 and added to the lowest single score within the nearest box.
Clarification of the above: Should a competitor hit the line of the box with a shot at any target, he/she is permitted to shoot the target each side of the line. The plug gauge will determine the bias of the pellet strike on the line. The target box which is judged to be most overlapped will be scored as maximum 3. The target box with the least overlap will be scored as any other target according to pellet strikes.
Completion: At the end of 20 minutes, any competitor not finished, will shoot any loaded pellet into the ground. No further shooting is permitted.
When the ceasefire whistle blows, competitors will bring their target cards back to the target table for scoring.
The scorer’s decision on the day shall be final unless a valid complaint is lodged. In which case, two club members plus the scorer will decide the final outcome.
*Shooters wishing to use .22 pistols may do so and their scores will be recorded for information purposes, but will not be included in the league results.
