LEAGUE 20 METRE OPEN SIGHT BENCH REST RULES Revised December 2022
A competitors will be allowed to participate in each of the classes below, but may only shoot one target card in each class.
Laser Sights are not permitted.
Classes:
Only none BB, sub 12foot /pound .177 calibre * rifles are permitted in this event.
There are 4 classes within the Open Sight Bench Rest event as follows:
1. Dioptre Springer: Any Spring or Gas Ram, rifle fitted with aperture sights.
2. Dioptre PCP: Any PCP, single/multi stroke Pneumatic or Co2, rifle fitted with aperture sights.
3. Notch and Post: Any rifle fitted with iron sights, with or without fibre optic inserts.
4. Red Dot: Any rifle fitted with a Red/Green Dot sight.
RANGE SAFETY
All rifles shall be taken to and from the firing line either encased or pointing down, unloaded and un-cocked. Rifles must point down range at all times during the competition. Multiple shot magazines may be pre-loaded with pellets but separate from the rifle until the competition commences. Magazines, even if assumed to be empty must be removed from the rifle prior to leaving the range.
Course of Fire:
Each course will consist of a line of scoring targets. (The number of targets is dependent upon turnout on the day)
Shooters will mark their cards with their name and the tick box of their chosen classification.
The targets shall be placed a minimum 2 metres apart, 20 metres from the firing line.
Benches shall be placed a minimum 2 metres apart butting the firing line. Competitors may provide their own benches and seats if they so wish.
Rifles shall be placed on benches with barrels pointing down range over the line with the rifle action behind the line.
Only the front end of the rifle (forward of the trigger guard) may be supported.
The support may be a mechanically adjustable rest such as Deben, Caldwell etc., or bipod fitted to rifle, a gun rest bag or a maximum of 2 bean bags stacked one on the other. The rear of the stock will be shoulder supported with any positional hold by the shooters supporting arm or hand i.e., machine gun hold, under fore stock or butt. The butt must not touch the bench except for resting/reloading.
Rear bag supports and reversed butt hooks for resting on shoulder are not permitted.
The target will consist of an A3 sheet with 10 scoring targets.
Timing and Scoring:
A separate card for zeroing will be set below each scoring target. There is no limit applied to the number of shots on the zeroing target.
A competitor will fire 2 shots only into each of 10 scoring targets.
All shots including those for zero checking must be taken within a time limit of 25 minutes.
A spotting scope will be necessary to ascertain point of impact but must be used by the competitor only. A separate spotter is not permitted.
A .177 Plug Gauge (Anschutz/Bisley) will be used for scoring all cards.
A NSRA Taper Gauge will be used to detect double shot holes on a target.
Each target ring is numbered inwards from 1 to 10 with a central 5mm ring and a 1-millimetre bonus ring within it.
Targets are scored inwards i.e., a shot in the 5 but touching the 6 is scored as 6.
A shot touching the 5-millimetre 10 ring is scored as 10. A shot obliterating the 1millimetre inner ring is scored a bonus point of 11
If all 5-millimetre central rings are hit the maximum score will be 200. If all central, 1-millimetre rings are obliterated by both shots, the maximum score will be 220.
3 or more shots in a 2 shot target ring will scored lowest 2 shots only. Supposing the scorecard shows 10, 9, & 7 - the 10 will be discounted and the lower 2 marked towards the final score.
Should any shot miss a target ring, it will be scored 0 and the nearest target ring to it will be scored lowest 2 including the 0.
Completion:
At the end of 25 minutes any competitor not finished will shoot any loaded pellet into the ground in front of the line. No further shooting is permitted.
When the ceasefire whistle blows, competitors will bring their targets back to the target table for scoring.
The scorer’s decision on the day shall be final unless a valid complaint is lodged. In this case, the scorer plus two club members shall decide the final outcome.
*Shooters wishing to use .22 rifles may do so and their scores will be recorded for information purposes, but will not be included in the league results.
