25m Bench Rest

We don't normally do a write up about internal league shoots but this one is definitely out of the ordinary.
On saturday morning when we got to Midshires it was raining. Of course something would go wrong, it always does when we do any paper target event.
So we put gazeboes over the benches and the targets and started the comp. There was a slight breeze from the left but not enough to cause concern.
As the rain eased the conditions boded well for high scores and we were not disappointed.
In the PCP event Colin scored a massive 242 with Phil not far behind with 241. Clive Pearson hit a 240 and David Clark 237
Wee Davie, Nicky and Lori scored 235 , 234 and 231 respectively. I was back on form after some poor scores recently and would have scored 238 had it not been
for a stupid unplanned trigger release which turned my 9 on target 12 into a big fat zero. I am always telling kids at shows to keep their fingers off the trigger until they
are on the target. What a Walley.
As mentioned the wind was from the left and visible on the flag behind the targets although there was little or no felt breeze at the benches. So it was a bit of a bummer when the wind
suddenly stopped as the rain restarted. Helen and Bob were on the last 3 targets on the bottom row and their scorecards show they were robbed of at least 5 points each.
Another minute of the breeze was all that was needed. In future I think we should put out a number of windicators at various points on the range .
Spare a thought for Ian Cook, I have been looking at his card and the pellet marks show little or no penetration.I don't think there was enough air left in his rifle to blow up a balloon.
His score of 66 proves he was having a problem.
Going on to the recoiling section, I have been looking at the archives and correct me if I am wrong but the highest recorded score of 215 was held until now by Colin & Lori Richardson, Allan Hamilton
and Andrew Coleman. When I retrieved my scorecard I knew I had a good score and sure enough it turned out to be 216. As I continued scoring I marked a 217 for Colin. Remember though how we all had to persuade Steve Allen to shoot this round?  He scored a fantastic 226 and we only have ourselves to blame for our persistance.
Lori's PCP record score of 243 from 2010 still stands but for how long?  Steve's record 226 from a springer is there for the taking but it may take a little while to catch him.
Anyway I normally destroy the scorecards after a couple of weeks but there are so many PERSONAL BESTS that I will bring them along next week for anyone wanting a keepsake.
Believe me there was some seriously good shooting on Saturday and congratulations to all who took part.
